Cold Run, meeting Meb, and Marathon sign up!

Three mile run today which I really did too quick (see my Dailymile widget for details).  You would think the fact that I've lived in Michigan my entire life that I would now be used to the cold.  Guess again.  This was a tough run for me today.  It was 29 degrees with a feels like temperature of 17.  Now that's cold!!

Later this evening I am going to a book signing for Meb Keflezighi, the 2009 New York City Winner and Olymipian.  I'm really excited to meet him and see what he has to say.  He is going to be at the Royal Oak Hanson's Running Shop from 6-8pm and he will be signing is new book, Run to Overcome.  I have not read it yet, but it looks like a good and easy read.  I'll post pictures later today or tomorrow.

Also, other really big news is that I signed up for my first full marathon.  The Bayshore Marathon located in Traverse City, Michigan in May 2011.  It sounds really early to sign up for this but yesterday was the first day to sign up and the marathon is already 40% full and the half marathon is already 50% full.  They cap the runners at 2,000 for each race to keep it small so it should be a really fun race.

  1. Never run the marathon, but I used to vacation up near Traverse and always loved the area. Hope the meetup with Meb went well!

  3. Congratulations on signing up for your first Marathon!!!
17 is a little cold especially if there was a wind.
My fav. temp is 0 Celsius for running. I'm good to about -10C and after that, I'm okay too but not my preferred. Ran 5K last winter with a 'very small group' in -30C/-22F weather. As long as you keep moving - take it over 30+ with humidity any day.
