119 days and 530 miles

Rest day today!  Yea for me!

So I have 119 days until my marathon.  I also have 530 more miles to run.  Wow.  It's seems like a lot of miles but then it really doesn't.  Know what I mean?

I'd like to ask everyone what you eat at lunch when you go out.  Due to my work schedule, I have been going out to lunch more often that I like.  I used to be able to bring my lunch 99% of the time so I could control what I ate but because I will be taking clients out more, I must go out.  My wife thinks it's a dream to be able to eat out for lunch on the companies dime but I actually don't want to do it.  I do the usual things and try to pick things on the menu that are more healthy..salad with dressing on the side, sandwich wraps, veggie type dishes.  The hard part for me is sometimes it is described as something as healthy and you really don't know the calories because of course they don't list it and MOST put some kind of sauce on their meal.  While that makes it taste great, it probably ups the calories considerably.  I never order french fries when it comes with the meal and can usually replace it with veggies or fruit.  Do you ever notice that not many restaurants have fruit.  Jeez, you would think this would be a normal thing to have.  Perhaps because most people are used to a hamburger and french fries for lunch, the fruit gets put on the backburner.  What do you do?

Have a great day and....Keep running!

  1. If I'm trying to eat healthy at a restaurant, I usually stick to grilled meat, sauce on the side, and no sour cream or guacamole if they are offered. I try and stay away from the bread basket, although this is usually impossible for me. And of course, I never get dessert. Water w/lemon to drink.

  2. i've never noticed if a restaurant has fruit. i guess i go straight for the fries ;) i've found that most restaurants list whether there's a sauce on it (if not i'll ask) and always ask for it to be held. mostly because i like tomatoes on my sandwiches and that adds enough juicy stuff for me.

  3. I love the Eat This, Not That book series. They have a lot of restaurants listed in there with the best and worst things on the menu. You would be surprised sometimes at what the healthiest choices are...and usually it isn't salad. Of course, it doesn't list every restaurant, mostly just popular chains, but its worth checking out because it offers good general ideas about ordering from menus.

  4. Well, do you remember the movie "When Harry Met Sally?" Well, I order like Sally, every thing is on the side and I always ask for substitutions. One of the things I always do is remind them to not put sauces and butter on anything because inevitably they will!

  5. I use this website. There are a ton of restuarants listed. It's geared for weight watchers points, but it also lists the calories, fat, carbs, and fiber for each item it has listed. They also have an app now, but it's a litle pricey in my opinion.

  6. I don't eat out a whole lot because you really can't tell what's going into your meal. You can do pretty well with a sandwich of grilled veggies, though.

  7. I eat anything I feel like as long as it's not oily or fatty. I'm building up to high miles now and when I do that I really eat a lot and get certain cravings. I just eat what I crave. I do keep the healthy eye on things though.

  8. I always ask for sauce on the side. I usually go with grilled chicken for healthy stuff. It's never been too bad.

  9. that would be hard! Being a stay at home mom though, I think I have the opposite problem. Access to food all day!! =) I dont hardly EVER eat out, so when I do, I go a little insane =) It sounds like you are doing god on your choices, you have more will power than I do! =)

  11. I know exactly what you mean! So many people love to eat out, but I always prefer to pack my own lunch. Call me a control freak, but I like to know what I'm putting in my body. Though if I'm craving pad thai or some other dish that far exceeds my meager spice cabinet / cooking abilities that's a whole different story..... :)

  12. wow 530 miles does sound like a LOT to me! I rarely ever eat out lunch but if I'm going out to dinner I usually order salad w/ some sort of non-meat protein source (hard boiled eggs, beans)..but usually I'm at a place with a vegetarian option I like. If not I'll eat something w/protein before I go out and then just split an appetizer, get some soup, or get a salad w/ lots of veggies.

  13. I can't help you out with this at all either...I almost always eat at work (salads) so when we do go out, it's a treat. I know what you mean about the sauce dilema though...and of course they can't put calories or have fruit available! Ugh. Woohoo! 530 miles! That's awesome! :0)
