Downtown Pittsburgh Run!!!!

I braved the cold(10 degrees) and my fear of running in an unknown city and ran outside in downtown Pittsburgh this morning. 5 miles of running through downtown, over several bridges(& they have lots of them), and trails on the river. The downtown skyline was incredible all lit up since it was dark. I felt reasonably safe. There were lots of people out downtown. I saw three runners. My run took me out the hotel, next to PNC Park where the Pirates play, over a bridge, and run right down Penn avenue. The city was so lit up that I did not even need my headlamp. I ran past a Heinz building as in Ketchup and ran past many hotels, office buildings and apartment buildings. Part of the trail was closed for construction but I was just exploring so it didn't matter. I imagine that during the day and in summer, this is an incredible place to run. I brought my garmin so that will be interesting to see.

I forgot my camera so all I have is an iPhone. I may try to bring the iPhone tomorrow with me but it's dark so don't know if anything will come out. I can't get pictures to upload so I'll do that when I'm home this weekend. Why was I so scared to run outside? Because I don't know the area and it's dark but it didn't take long to find out where I was going and got comfortable with being out there in this big city running alone. I'm quite proud of myself as I probably debated about going out there for hours before doing it. Now I'm glad I did.

Have a great day and.....Keep Running!!!!

  14. I grew up in Pittsburgh and it is a wonderful place to run. Years ago it was dirty and smoke filled - now it is so clean it is like you are in Canada!

Hope you enjoy the rest of your visit!

  15. Way to get out there and run. I'm always afraid to run in places I don't know. I have no issues driving around...but running, not so much. I think I'll make that a 2011 goal. Go running in an unknown city. Could be fun! :-)
