Longest treadmill run

Crazy, insane, nuts, wacko.....yup, that's what I am for doing this.

Over the year, I have read many of you that do your long run on the treadmill.  As you know, I've always tried to run outside as much as possible.  I wimped out today and used the treadmill again(after using it all week) but mainly due to time.  I didn't wake up until 9am and I didn't want to drive to the park to do my run so I decided to run it on the treadmill.  I wish I could walk out my door and get to the park.  I'd never run inside.

This is my first long run on the treadmill and my longest run on it. NINE miles!  Now this is not my longest run but, first off, I can't believe I actually stayed on the thing for nine miles.  Second, I started watching a movie and the time actually went by quicker than I thought it would.  Third, I really slowed it down.  I ran all nine at a 9:05 pace for an hour and 20 minutes.  I have really been trying to work on slowing my pace down - at least for my long runs.  I can tell you that it was fast enough.  My goal has always been to finish the marathon which I have no doubt I can do that regardless of time and second to finish in four hours.  Given that, I really need to slow my pace down so I can keep going.

So what's your longest run on the treadmill?

Have a good day and.....Keep running!

  1. 13 miles. Never again! Now 3 miles on the treadmill is enough. These winter months are tough. Super 5K is tomorrow, if you want to get an outdoor run.

  3. You beat me by one :p I totally have to slow down on the tread for longer runs. I've never watched a movie though, I should try that!! I LOVE my music though. In fact I kinda want to go log some miles on The Mill right now just so I can rock out :D

  4. I think 8 is my longest. Watching a movie sounds like it would surely pass the time. I kind of get stuck watching whatever is on at the gym since I don't have my own treadmill. I had 6 yesterday on the TM but I was in the zone and focusing on form and pace so it kept me busy.

  5. Great job on the nine miles especially on the treadmill. I am trying to slow my runs down too so that I reduce my risk of injury. The treadmill definitely makes that possible!

  6. going slow and having a good distraction is the only way i can survive the longer miles on the treadmill! way to be getting all nine miles in.

i've done up to a 15 miler...but i usually break it up into three sets of 5 miles, pausing to get a drink, use the restroom, or stretch in between the sets. its more mental. 5 miles feels more doable than 15.

  7. 8 miles is my longest treadmill run. That was when I enjoyed running on the treadmill. Probably couldn't do that now as the 'mill and I are no longer on speaking terms.

  9. NICE! 8 straight is my record. I have done 9 but I had to break it up : )

I love trashy DVR to get me thru a run on the treadmill. I run on the treadmill three times a week so I have learned to love it.

  10. Wow, congrats on the great long run! I haven't run longer than 6 miles on the treadmill, but I'm going to have to soon if the weather doesn't start getting better out here! Great job!

  13. Ha! Only 3 measly miles on the TM…and that was all I could stand! The only thing that I have done that is comparable to your awesome boredom-enduring feat would be 90 minutes on a rowing machine…but that was two lifetimes ago ;-)

    Good work!

  15. I used to run 9:05 pace...oh that was the day. I just did 17.1 and I was thrilled with a 9:48 pace (grrr). I have to keep remembering the speed will come back one day...right now, it's about building.

    Nice job on the mill!!

  17. I've never been on a treadmill. They don't look fun though, so nine miles is more than impressive.

  21. I did my 9 on the treadmill too.

I ended up running the first hour by using the jog/push/tempo work out and then added the extra mileage at the end to meet 9.1 miles/1:15:29. using that work out really helped pass the time!
