Ok, it's official, I'll never have a chance to run in the Boston Marathon with these new times. Oh well, I guess I'll have to choose one of the other 100,000 marathons to run. All kidding aside. I would really love to run Boston someday but it's unlikely that I will ever have the speed to run a 3:15 marathon. Perhaps when I'm 65 or 70 and I still have a little speed left, I might have a chance. Running a 7:26 mile for 26.2 miles - never going to happen. I don't disagree with the changes - they want the best to run in it and I think that's only fair.
I'm going to start the new "I can't qualify for Boston Marathon, Marathon" in Boston. I bet it would be a sellout.
What are your thoughts about the changes - especially those that have run it?
Have a great day and.......Keep Running!!!
haha I would sign up for the "i can't qualify" one. Don't say you can't though, you don't know that for sure. I think you WILL! I understand the changes, but realize why its frustrating for so many people too. It's a sticky issue.
ReplyDeleteHi Jeff! I'm running my first Boston this year and cannot wait... it is a MAJOR milestone for me. I agree with Meg. You may surprise yourself. Since they sold out in a few hours, they had to do something to limit the field. The course can't handle any more runners.
ReplyDeleteMy initial impression is that it is better than a lottery, but still a tricky issue.
ReplyDeleteMy recommendation: Houston (owns my PR). Really moving up there and lots of elites! I guess I love my city!
I understand why they make it tougher to run the Boston Marathon. I think it should be for the very best. I don't have to worry about ever stealing someone's spot and running it! No way I could ever run that fast.
ReplyDeleteHaha I'll never run it now either. It was a long shot to begin with, now it's just not going to happen!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was the same as yours. I am never getting into Boston now!
ReplyDeleteMy initial reaction was sadness and frustration. My goal this May is to BQ and with the new registration process my chance is slim to none even if I do qualify. I thought it over and I still intend to shoot for a Boston qualifying time. I may not get in, but I will still know that I did reach the qualifying time required!
ReplyDeleteMy time changes in 2013 from 3:40 to 3:35. I'd really like to reach the 3:35 mark this year. So I am officially changing my goal. Time to kick it into high gear!
My thoughts are on my blog today.
ReplyDeleteYour race would definitely sell out! :)
ReplyDeleteEf... I was thinking it'd be hard enough to keep an 8:22 pace for 26.2... but 8:12? Of course, I haven't even run my first marathon, so I may hate it so much that I won't care if I BQ or not.
ReplyDeleteI think your alternate BM is a great idea! lol
ReplyDeleteYeah I was totally pissed when I found this out! I could MAYBE make 3:40 one day but with the rolling admission it will NEVER make it to me. I am slowly getting over it and going to make a sub 4 hour marathon and move on to another challenge.
ReplyDeleteWe should totally host an, "I Can't Qualify For Boston" race! I'll bet a ton of people would sign up! I know I would!
ReplyDeleteHa, hilarious! Picture this, instead of blue and gold as theme colors ... you could use gold and blue! Think about it before you say no.
ReplyDeleteNot going to happen for me in the near future anyway, so not really a big deal and I can't blame them for the changes.
ReplyDeletesign me up! i'm there!
ReplyDeleteAccording to the Association of Road Racing Statisticians (www.arrs.org) (and they take pride to find everyone) there were 2,804 marathons during 2010.
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd pass along useless trivia.
