Virtual 5k today in the rain?

Hi everyone:

For those of you signed up for the "I just felt like running" 5k, today is the official day.  Of course, if you are in Detroit, like me, you are likely doing it on the treadmill since we have a 100% chance of race.  Or perhaps you already did it last week or will do it the week after.  I have been receiving times but there are still many of you that need to turn in times.  Good luck!!!

what my windows look like!

Personally I don't mind having the weather be like this today.  I have a real 5k coming up next Sunday and the following Sunday is a half marathon so I'll take rain today.  Heck, I'd even prefer rain next Sunday over running in the rain for 13 miles(hopefully not!)  I have been very lucky when it comes to rain.  It has only rained slightly for one of my races, a 10 mile race, and it was just sprinkles.  It was 80 degrees so it actually was nice to cool us down a little.

Today, I'm picking up my race packet for the 5k at the local running shop, Hanson's!   I'll post a picture of the shirt on tomorrow's post.  Do you get excited picking up your racing package.  I'm really excited since my last real race was Thanksgiving.  I really envy you people in the South who get to run year round in races!  I suppose I could run all year in races as well since we do have a race on New Years eve and there is usually one in February to run.  I don't think there was much in January.  I guess I can't complain too much.  LOL.

If you missed it, check out yesterday's post for a chance to win Sony headphones!

Question of the day:  What's the worst weather you have run in for a race?

Have a great day and......Keep running!!!

  1. I will be running it in the snow later this afternoon! No mill for me :)

I ran my 20 mile training run in the pouring rain (with thunder and lightning) last fall. It was horrible and demoralizing and my ipod died at mile 14. BUT. It was supremely confidence building. I knew that I could finish that marathon no matter what.

  2. Worst weather:

Aurora (Ohio) Turkey Trot, 2007. Sleet/freezing rain and wind combined with 30 degrees made this a cold, wet, miserable 4 miles.

Heart of a Spartan 10K in Lansing, May 2010: Absolutely POURING rain the entire time. I was 100% soaked through. There wasn't a square inch of fabric on me which wasn't wet (even my undies).

One week later, the Vision Builders 5K in Dexter. Despite being the middle of May, it was about 40 degrees, blasting wind, and raining. Horrible conditions; good thing it was only a 5K. I still came away with some age group swag.

  3. Worst weather:

Fifth Third River Bank Run 10K 2009: Overcast and cool before the start. As soon as the gun went off, it started to rain. I was 100% soaked and cold. It was hard getting my clothes off and I was cold all day long. Ironically, it was my fastest race ever. I ran a 55:50.

Chicago Marathon 2010: A bright sunny hot mess. 85 degrees by 11am. I was so freaking HOT and gross. Not a good first marathon experience -- weather wise. But Chicago is still awesome.

"I just felt like running 5K" completed. I'll post a recap.

  13. Wow!!! Some REALLY bad weather everyone. Those of you that did your 5k, I all them to my list.

misszippy - it is nice to have a store local that is known nationally.

Johann - good luck on the marathon!

Ken - I'm skipping out on tomorrows run at Stoney and going for the treadmill. 15-20 mph wind so I know that Stoney will not be nice tomorrow. Nine miles on the treadmill. Yuck!!!!!
