Back at it!!!

Well back at it, this is a tougher week for me - the cutback week is over!  I'm looking at 43 miles of running for the week with my first 20 miler as well.  On the schedule for today -- Cross training!  10 miles on the bike and weights.  Happy to be inside today because of this stupid weather.  I really wish I could have had a camera on my run yesterday.  It would have been really funny to see me and my running buddy battling the winds.  It was ridiculous!

Here's an article I found on the internet about products that last longer than you think - 2 YEARS for running shoes!!!! Hahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!  If I kept my shoes for two years, I probably would have quite running by now.   Just keep them in a cool place when not wearing.  Where in THE hell do writers come up with this shit!  It must be true right?  I mean it's on the internet.  Jeez!

Question of the day?  How long do you keep your shoes?  I keep mine for 400 miles.  Right now that's a little longer than 3 months.

  1. Hahaha...keeping my running shoes...I totally get IT band issues, shin splints and in general can just tell when they are DONE! I try for 400-500 miles but it all depends...Have a good cross training day...you'll do great this week...just focus on the long slow 20miler and you'll be set!

  2. I'm new enough that my highest mileage pair of shoes has only 320 miles on them. I'm hoping to get them over 500 as the majority of the miles this spring/summer will be on dirt trails with that pair.

  3. Why yes put them in the fridge while not using them. That will help. Gosh I hope people don't take that for real! They'll be so injury prone they would never use them again!

  5. That article is ridiculous! I usually keep my shoes for about 400-500 miles or until I start to feel it a little in my knees. Probably not the best way to go, but it's worked pretty well so far.

  6. I usually go about 400 miles on mine, then rotate them to play/walking shoes. That way they do last a while longer and I don't feel like I am just throwing them away after a few months. I usually keep my shoes inside at room temperature and sometimes I can tell when they are done, other times idk.

  8. I put about 350-400 on mine (then use them for walking). I'm a supinator that has to have VERY cushioned shoes so I wear the outside of mine down pretty bad.

  9. Ha! I *just* wrote about this on my blog (http://bit.ly/espvst). Usually, I go by mileage (300-500) combined with feel. When I start having problems or pains, then it's time to switch. Sometimes, however, other factors mandate I change earlier.

  10. LOL I get a couple pairs a year and rotate. I am not sure I even hit 500 miles a year, so maybe I update too frequently Plus I have separate trail shoes so my road shoes really have got it good.

  11. I'm about to retire a really good pair. They ran me through my first two half marathons but they are almost dead. They're right around 400 miles. I am actually looking into buying a pair of Nike Free... I'm very interested in a more minimalist approach...

  12. They are retired from running anywhere between 300-500 miles. My feet determine the miles. After that they become the work in the yard shoes, the take kids to practice shoes. etc.
