The theme for today's 5 mile run was wet, wet, wet. There were also tons of worms out on the roads and sidewalks this morning. I started out my run with a very light rain that turned into a steady downpour and finished with lots of wind too. The first mile was not too bad, a little wet. The next four miles were really wet with the last half mile wet and windy. After the second mile of trying to jump around puddles and not being successful at keeping my feet dry, I just went right through them. My shoes were absolutely soaked but I was determined to finish my run. I won't start running in pouring rain but I also won't quite during it either unless there's a thunderstorm. It was really pouring about an hour before I started today and then the sky broke for awhile. I was thinking I could get my run complete without rain but I was not so lucky today.

Tomorrow's an off day so I'm ready for my third half marathon. I'm already feeling awesome! Feet are in good shape, legs feel awesome and excited it's only 13.1 I'm running this weekend. As I have said in the past, this one looks really fun. Aren't they all? The forecast is Sunny and high of 67 so it should be in the low 50's when we are running. Great weather for a half marathon! This is the first year of this half and they are over 2300 runners as of Tuesday. Wow! Huge for a first year!

Question of the day? Will you start your run outside if it's raining?
Have a great day and......Keep Running!!!!!!
Oh no...that sounds a little miserable! I don't like wet socks and squishy shoes! lol If it's raining outside then no, I won't start running - however, if I get stuck in the rain, I try to finish my run....
ReplyDeleteI hate the days when worms are everywhere... you know you end up smooshing a ton of 'em. I've definitely started runs in the rain. I won't do it when it's cold outside, but summer's in New Orleans are brutal. Running in summer rainstorms is sometimes the only way to get relief. (Treadmills don't count. They aren't relief.)
ReplyDeleteIf it's warm out I LOVE running in the rain. If it's cold, no way. It's been terrible and humid here and I wish it would rain because it's far more preferable to this. Soaking wet shoes, though, are kind of the worst.
ReplyDeleteI hate what I call "the worm smell" outside after it's rained and there are dead worms everywhere. Ick. I don't like to run in the rain, but I did run a race last year where it started raining rather heavily. It felt good because it was very warm and humid outside and helped keep me cool.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm not a hard core runner who will run in anything. More a fair weather runner.
I ran yesterday with a little snow shower going on but I usually won't start in a rain shower. If it starts when I am running then like you I will finish my run. I don't like getting wet but will suffer if need be.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your 1/2!
Good luck, Jeff!!! I hate running while dodging worms!!! It sucks! Sounds like perfect weather for your half!! Our weather for Sunday looks about the same as yours so I'm excited for my half as well!!! It depends on my mood as to whether or not I'll start a run when it's raining.
ReplyDeleteJust found you, I am a Toledo runner. I don't start in heavy rain but, like my run yesterday, I started in a drizzle that didn't let up.
ReplyDeleteI hate puddle dodging...I cannot wait for spring rains to be finished!
Hi Jeff
ReplyDeleteNo worms out west...slugs tho
Didn't run in rain before but after two races in downpours ive made my piece with the rain.
We get worms out here where I live. Be careful... they can make you slip if you squish on them. I will start a run when it's raining outside. Running is an outdoor sport... sometimes it rains in the outdoors :P
ReplyDeleteWishing you the best with this half!!!
Christi - Yikes; snow still?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the well wishes!
If it's warm out, running in rain is fun! Running on worms is not :P
