Wow. I had a six miler on my schedule today which I did finish. It was outside. It was sprinkling outside when I started and I could see clouds with lightning from probably six miles away. I figured I could beat the heavy rain and lightning. Everything was good for about 3 miles and the rain started coming down a little harder. Got to about mile 5 and the lightning was right there with me. Yikes, that was a little too close for comfort! I don't mind watching lightning from inside - - I kind of like it actually - - but not when I'm out in the middle of it.
When I started running, the lightning was like this:
Not too bad, and very high up in the clouds. When I was at mile 5, the lightning looked more like this:
A little more pronounced coming out of the clouds and a couple scared the crap out of me. I'm sure the cars driving by were thinking I was crazy. I was thinking the same thing. Anyway, I got the run done and onto the next day. By the way, outside now, the storm has passed....of course!
Question of the day: Have you ever had a race cancelled or delayed due to weather? If so, what race? No for me.
Have a great day and.....Keep Running!!!!!
Oh gosh...scary! Glad you were able to finish the run and get back inside ok! No, I've never had a race cancelled due to rain. :0)
ReplyDeleteYes my first half marathon was delayed due to a rain storm. It was a horrible storm and being already soaked from walking to packet it pick up and back to my truck I was hoping they would cancel. lol.
ReplyDeleteholy cow, that's scary stuff. I've never had a race cancelled due to weather.
ReplyDeleteNice job finishing in that weather!! I totally would have gone inside!!! Never had a race postponed or anything due to weather.
ReplyDeleteMy brothers 1/2 in OKC two weeks ago was delayed for lightning!
ReplyDeleteShocking photo of the bolts! ;)
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite runs ever was in a thunder and lightning storm.
ReplyDeleteNo races have been delayed or cancelled. I've ran a couple whoppers though that were survival runs before I was through :)
Thanks for your comments everyone. It was pretty scary at the end. Tomorrow's looking good though!
ReplyDeleteScary. But beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteI ran in lightning earlier this week too, but nothing that was THAT close to me. Those thunder claps can make the hair on your neck stand up - glad you made it safe.
