A different kind of race....

3 miles on the schedule; actually did almost 4 miles; I'm testing out a new pair of shoes and will do a review about them in August.  It was really hot again today and will be all this week.  I'm already tired of the heat.  Also my right quad is sore and my left hamstring is sore - shouldn't they offset each other?  Haha!  I think I over did it on the bike yesterday.

------------------------

Is it just me or does summer seem to be going way too fast.  I know I've complained about the hot weather but jeez, it's almost August!

A week from Saturday I have my next race.  Jeez, one a month is more than enough for me.  I'm not mentally ready to race again but hopefully in 10 days I will be.  This race is actually a short race, only 3.1 miles and it's a mud run.  I'm sure many of you have heard of the Warrior Dash.  They are coming to Michigan and I'm in!  Registration is now closed so it's going to be crowded!

I'll be running this course with on of my friends and former co-workers, P.  She runs a little slower than I and I told her I would stick with her the entire course.  This is not a race about time(at least for me).  This is all about having fun and enjoying each obstacle on the course.  They added one obstacle that freaks me out which is going under a tarp in mud with it being dark.  They did not have that when I signed up - I might not have signed up.  You can skip some of the obstacles but since I am paying to do this, I'll give every one  of them a shot.  The only other thing that freaks me out is running in wet shoes for most of the run but I'll face my fears and complete the course!

Here's the map showing the route and number of obstacles so it's not too bad:

Anyway you do this, it's going to be an experience.

Question of the day?  What kind of weird race have you done?

Have a great day and......Keep Running!!!!!

  2. Have fun at the Warrior Dash! My best advice is to wear clothes (and shoes) that you don't mind getting beyond filthy. Much fun!

  4. Ah, the Beer Mile. Drink a 12 oz. beer to start and one after each 1/4 mile. You're running/drinking for speed. Who needs mud???

  5. My running partner, who gets panic attacks, almost had one in that tarp in the dark. Poor thing. But we survived it! If you're interested in ours in Louisiana, check out my review of it:

  6. SO BUMMED! I was going to do this one. The plan was to head down to Michigan with a few vans full of peeps and do the damn thing. A few things came up so I couldn't pull it off. Next Year for sure. Good Luck...can't wait for the post...

  8. Will be great fun for sure! Wet shoes aren't bad at all. You just run like you always do. I haven't done any really weird race. We have one 10 miler where you get beer at the aid stations and if you don't drink at least one beer you are not allowed to leave the aid station again.

  9. i have a couple of friends who signed up for a race like that in florida. i'll be interested to see how you like it compared to just a road race. i imagine that it will be a whole different universe all together.

  11. The WD looks like fun. I did something similar called Mud Mania around here that was a lot like WD, but a lot cheaper, no fire, and proceeds were for a town playground. Have a BLAST!!

  12. I did the Warrior Dash last year in Joliet, IL. I had no idea what to expect. Bring tons of towels and changes of clothes (even the spectators were covered in mud). The part that bothered me the most about the race was running in shoes that weigh 10+ pounds each because they are caked with mud up to your ankles. It's really hard to run like that! If you go into the race with the mindset of just letting loose and having fun, you'll really enjoy it.

  13. Wow, love the blog it's some kinda unique and the fonts are attracting too. Warrior Dash is a nice race too, I loved those obstacles they were giving. I saw the photos taken during the race and they were really cool. Congratulations to all the racer for a great job well done. Keep it up ! Looking forward always.
