8 miles on the schedule today......done!!!!
-----------------
I'm sure many of you out there in blog land dream of making of living on running. I'd love it if I could but is it really something you could do? Sure but it's also nice to stay a dream as well. Doing some of these things sounds fun but you might realize that you actually do have to work. Nothing is all fun and games when you plan to get paid to do it, right?
Run a racing company - these seem to be popping up all over the place. Please doing timing services or people getting paid to plan races. How many themed races are out there now? Warrior Dash, Divas, Rock N Roll Marathon, Tough Mudder, etc, etc, etc. If you can think it up, you can make money....maybe.
Coaching - this one is probably something some of us have contemplated and/or have actually taken classes for. I have not taken any classes but it seems interesting if I could find something in the area without flying around the country to learn about it. Many of you also have coaches so you know the value of this. The more clients, the more you make. Of course, it helps if you were a coach to a world class athlete at some time so you can actually earn enough money to live.
Retail - this one's a tough one. You are always competing with the internet. Even if you set up a new website to sell merchandise, there are lots of major players already in the market and this one could cost you lots of money to set up.
Blogging - Who doesn't run a blog that does not want to make money at it. Sure, it's possible but still probably pretty rare. Of course, perhaps if you can get your site hitting 1,000,000 hits a day, there would certainly be value in it.
Writing - This is a tough one. I like writing about running as much as the next blogger but writing a complete book...perhaps. I think there's probably at least one book in each of us. The real question is how many copies would you sell?
Pro Athlete - Hahaha! Yeah, right.
For now, I'll stick to what I know. Or least to what I've done for 20 years.
Question of the day? Do you wish you could make a living related to running?
Have a great day and.....Keep Running!!!!
I don't think anyone goes into these things to make money (unless you're Dean Karnazes). They're just jobs that allow people to do what they love all the time.
ReplyDeleteBtw, you're missing the most important running book ever written from your list on the side—"Once a Runner" by John Parker. It's a great read!
I am very lucky.. I get a few cents from UCT for coaching, would feel bad charging people!! then I am luck to be old enough to sneak a couple of 40+ prizes... (only when the real runner aren't there)
ReplyDeleteFunny thing I read this today. I was just telling the wife that I would love to have a job running related....... One can dream. :)
ReplyDeleteI really, really want to become a certified personal trainer. Not necessarily running, but fitness related.
ReplyDeleteYou mean I can make money coaching????? LOL
