Garmin vs Timex?

3 miles on the schedule today.  Boy, it sure was cold out there this morning.  Low 30's.  Yikes, had to wear my winter running jacket this morning.  Probably could have worn wool socks too.  My feel were a little cold but not too bad.

---------------------

So I have been thinking of getting one of these:

This is the new Timex run trainer.  This thing has some amazing features on it and it's only $190 at Running Warehouse.  I also would get this $50 off offer bringing it down to $140.  PLUS I bought a $200 Running Warehouse gift certificate for only $160 bucks(20% off) so really the watch ends up costing $112.

$112 - FOR THIS WATCH IS AMAZING!!!!  There is a great review on DC Rainmaker's site.

There is only a few things stopping me right now:

1) It does not sync with Dailymile which I use to keep track of my miles.  I don't like the Garmin site much.
2) I already own a Garmin 310xt.  Although for $112 it's like my wife buying groceries -- if it's on sale and you have a coupon, why not purchase it now even if you don't need it right away?
3) It syncs with Training Peaks.  This probably should be a good thing but I really like the simplicity of Dailymile to track everything.  If you want very detailed tracking, training peaks looks great.

Question of the day?  Has anyone bought one of these yet?  How do you like it?

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!

  1. I like your reason #2. On sale plus coupon = MAJOR Score. Sadly, I don't know much about the product, though, to give you any better feedback. I use a Timex watch for swimming/indoor timing and my Garmin for outside or on the bike trainer. I look for a 99 or 100 lap memory to help me keep track of lap swimming in the pool, to get to 2500yards.

  2. I don't have one of these either and as we move towards xmas I'm wondering if I should ask for a Garmin. I've never considered Timex but will check out the reviews.

For me the deal breaker might be the daily mile thing. I like the whole upload thing (i do that now with my Nike+) So if that is a major thing to you that might be the serious consideration.

The flip side is that daily mile at least allows you to track your miles manually so you could always put your information in.

$112 seems like a steal for it. I guess you could always get it and use it for a few weeks. Keep all the packaging as pristine as possible. If for some reason you don't love it, you could always Ebay it as a 'slightly' used item and probably recoup most of your cash. Runningwarehouse has a pretty liberal return policy too - you may even be able to return it for a credit.

Good luck - I'll be lurking to see what others have to say!

  3. My wife would say: Why do you need 2 watches? I would say: Hell why not. So go and get it, you don't have to use it for all your runs, and I bet in a couple of months it could be working with Dailymile...
