Hyland Post #14 - Prepare to race the day before

Rest day on the schedule today.

-----------------

Here's a recap of week #13 of 18 weeks of marathon training:

Miles Run:  43.08 miles
Days Run:  5 days
Cross Training:  None
Time Training:  6 hours and 35 minutes

-----------------

Personal I think the week went well overall.  Yes, I skipped my cross training but then I was facing a 20 miles run on Sunday and felt I needed the rest before the big run.  Higdon's plan does call for running the day before a long run and I may do that this week coming up but I've "only" got 12 miles on the schedule for this weekend's long run.  Plus, I really want to try out a new pair of trail shoes I just received to do a review.  I can't wait to share them with you.

Anyway, this week coming up is a cut back week so I only have 35 miles on the schedule.  For those of you that have not run a marathon, wait until you run 20 miles and then do 12 the following week.  It's like heaven.  It feels easy.  I love this part of the training when a half marathon distance "feels" easy.  I didn't say it was easy.  Five more weeks to go!

One thing that I do, that may be of help to many of you, when I'm preparing for a race is I lay everything out the night before.  I think most runners do.  I used to lay everything out the night before for every run but that gets old so I hung a special shelf to hold all my running stuff so I don't forget something before a run.  I think putting everything out the day before the race helps you:

  1. Not be so crazy in the morning
  2. Helps you wake up with a little less stress
  3. Helps you not forget something.

Trying to stay organized

It's worth it.  Try it and you will see what I mean.

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!

    1. If I tip it upside down, yes but I hold it on an angle so it's not an issue for me. I use it on every run.

  4. I haven't done a marathon in awhile but I remember using words like "only" 12 miles. Now that's not the case for me at all.
