So today I picked out my shirt for the Back to the beach half marathon. Check it out:
I figured I'm wearing green shoes, I might as well wear a green shirt. The best thing about this shirt? 1) It's from one of my favorite race organizations - Kona Running Company. 2) It's mostly white. While I'm not a guy who loves mostly white shirts, this one will come in handy considering the weather tomorrow here in Detroit.
As the name of the half marathon suggests, it's a great day for the beach. Literally! Not so much for a half marathon. These temps are warmer than I faced at The Flying Pig marathon in Cincinnati two weeks ago except the humidity was higher down there. These temps are crazy. I've never started a half marathon this warm. If I finish within approximately two hours, it should be close to 80 degrees. Yikes! If you are running or racing in the area tomorrow, try to take it easy to not overheat.
In order to prepare for this hot event, here's what I'll be doing today - actually only #1 and #2 plus drinking lots of water.

Hydrate hydrate hydrate! Have fun tomorrow :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a race I hear very little of. yes, I'll be doing some hill work in the heat of the mid-day sun.
ReplyDeleteMark - if the temps are any indicator, Ann Arbor should be fun - right?
DeleteHopefully some of the trail portions will give you a little break from the sun. Have fun!
DeleteGood luck on your race! And yes, those temps really suck eggs. people who don't run have no idea how hot it really feels even when it's 70 outside!
ReplyDeleteMake sure you drink some nuun! Good luck!!
