Tifosi Podium S Sunglasses review

A little over a month ago, Tifosi sent me a pair of their new Podium S sunglasses to wear and test.  I used these exclusively for running and biking.  As you may already know, I have worn their Tyrant sunglasses since I have reviewed these back in February(click HERE to read).  I have a very difficult time trying to find sunglasses that fit just right and found those through the Tyrant's.  I have not stopped wearing them since I did that review.  They are the best running sunglasses that I've worn since I started running three years ago.

Naturally, with a new pair out on the market, I wanted to test the Podium S in order to see how they also fair for running.  I ran approximately 100 miles in them including all of my long runs in the last month.  Here's a look at them:

As you can see, the sunglasses come in a very nice case to protect them.  I always use the case especially when I'm traveling.  The Podium is much different than the Tyrant's.  They have a one piece lens which is interchangeable with three lens.  To me, that was a great feat of engineering.  The secret is in the design of the glasses.

First, the nosepiece comes off easily and is adjustable to get just the right fit.  I really like their nosepiece especially because it can be adjusted properly for running so the glasses do not bounce around.  Bouncing glasses is my biggest pet peeve with sunglasses.

Second, is the ear piece that can be removed from the lens.  A simple lift of the temple and the lens is removed so you can change out the type of lens you have.

Third, the ear pieces have rubber at the end of them to help keep the glasses secured to your head.  There's nothing worse that always feeling the glasses move around as you run - which having this helps keep them from moving.

It comes with three lens including grey for sunny conditions, an orange/amber for lower light conditions and a clear for evening conditions.  I have found that all three are very good lens to run with.  I especially like the clear lens so if it's raining or snowing, it helps keep rain or snow out of your eyes.

You can see from the picture above what the lens looks like when the nose piece is removed and the temple pieces are removed.  A very ingenious design that allows you to have a one piece lens that is interchangeable - love it!

The bottom line is that these are great quality sunglasses.  I especially like them for biking since the one piece lens is nice for that purpose.  The price is also very reasonable for what you get at only $69.95!  Frankly, I'm not sure how Tifosi even makes money at this price given the package.

Likes:

1. High quality product for a very reasonable price
2. Very useful lens that does not block your vision
3. The fit is very comfortable(and adjustable)
4. Interchangeable lens(3 included)

Dislikes:

1. A tad difficult to change the lenses.  My suggestion is to watch the video - it helps tremendously.  Because it's a one piece lens you need to be careful as they are a little tight when removing.  Once you are used to changing the lens, the change is very simple.
2. Lens choice - Ok, not a negative in terms of what comes with the glasses they give you three but I would like a mirrored lens like the Tyrant's have.  They just seem cooler.  To me anyway - ha!.
