Janji Kenya shorts |
On the way to the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Mike and Dave had an idea: what if they could help runners give back not solely through charitable races, but during each and every run? By the time the track meet ended, Janji had been born.
Mike and Dave realized that by producing high performance running apparel with a distinct look, Janji could raise awareness and fund relief for the global food and water crisis—one that kills 1 child every 6 seconds and affects nearly 2 billion people worldwide.
They knew that runners--including themselves--often take for granted the food and water needed to run. Not everyone is so lucky. Now by simply wearing Janji's apparel, runners can help provide food and water to those in need.
Janji is the Malaysian word for "promise." Janji’s promise—made by Mike and Dave on that bus ride—is to combat the food and water crisis through the power of running.
So it's simple really. Purchase apparel from Janji and you help provide food and water to those in need. Specifically, this would be for the less fortunate in Haiti and Kenya.
Here's a look at what I was sent:

The running shorts are just that --- made for runners. The material is 100% polyester so it keeps dry as you run. There is also in interior lining along with a small pocket for some money or a key. The inseam is 4 inches.

I like the design of these and really, who doesn't want to run like a Kenyan? Also, the most important part to these is that for every purchase of the shorts, Janji gives an average of one season's worth of water to a Kenyan Family. You get shorts and you get to give back as well. The company also sells Haiti colors and gives back in that country as well.
Pluses:
- Wicking material
- Nice quality shorts
- Giving back to those less fortunate
Issues:
- 4 inch inseam. I happen to be more modest and do not prefer such a short pair of shorts but do understand many runners wear this length.
- Cost. While I understand it's the cause that is likely the reason the shorts are $38, it's a bit higher than I would pay for running shorts.
Overall I think the company has it's heart in the right place but in regards to running shorts, because of the length, I personally am not comfortable wearing these out to run. These will be kept for treadmill only runs and/or only when it's dark out. If the company were to come out with a 8-9 inch inseam, I'm sure I'd love these!

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!
Those are pretty cool. I like the flag design on them and cool that part of the money goes to good cause. I do think they are a little short for most male runners.

ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of this look. Perfect work outfit for those days that are just far too hot.
