Running & Vegans

Rest day on the schedule today...

------------------

This weekend I picked up a new running book.  I love reading about other peoples experiences with running and so far this is a good one.  The book is Scott Jurek's Eat and Run:
See his website
I've only read the first few chapters but it has really kept my attention so far.  The book talks about his Ultrarunning experiences and also eating and training as a Vegan.  I've been interested in the Ultra distance and thinking of signing up for one of these next year as I've said in the past but I really need to find something I really want to run.  Scott was in Michigan about a month ago and after run reading part of this book, I wish I would have taken the time to go meet him.  Oh well, maybe I'll have a chance to meet him sometime at a future marathon.

I'm also interested in the Vegan lifestyle.  I'm not saying I want to be a Vegan but I could see eating some of the recipes that he has in each chapter.  Some of them sound excellent.  Some of them sound horrible.  I can't say I'm ever going to be a Tofu person but you never know.

I've got a friend that truly believes in the Vegan lifestyle and it has really changed her family.  It shows the power of eating off the land.  Not that I'm in McDonald's ever but I do enjoy chicken and the occasional steak.

If you have an interest in Ultra running or the Vegan lifestyle, you may have an interest in this book.

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!

  1. I'm currently 2/3rd thru the book, and agree, it is a good read. I made the drive to meet Scott at Playmakers in Lansing when he was here, and was really interested in his charity work in Ethiopia.

I've started adopting a vegan lifestyle, for health reasons. I suggest starting with Mark Bittman's article No Meat, No Dairy, No Problem (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/01/magazine/mark-bittman-going-semi-vegan.html?_r=0)

and for a medical perspective - I suggest watching the video Forks over Knives.

And there are lots of alternatives to tofu
