Two marathons again?

5 miles on the schedule today....done!  Interesting five miles today.  I saw s skunk in the same place as I've seen him before so had to run around him.  I'm hoping one day I don't accidentally scare him and get sprayed.  Also, I tried to cross the street and, of course, this lady was in a hurry, turning right and not paying attention.  I had the right away to cross but she still didn't see me in my reflective gear and headlamp, on a lighted corner so I started yelling so she saw me but that didn't work.  So I then had to bang on her hood so she could see me so I could cross.  I hate morning drivers.  They don't pay attention!

So yesterday my running buddy e-mailed me asking if I wanted to change from a half distance to the full distance at the Lansing Marathon.  I'll be running the half in April in 2013 and we are both signed up for this already.  I told him he could sign up for the full and I'd wait for him to finish but I'd be running the half.

It's crazy to think it but now I'm second guessing whether I want to train again for a full.  Probably one of the best things about training for a spring full marathon is that the weather is cold during training.  I know for some of you, that's not always a good thing but I actually prefer to train in cold weather.  In addition, my running buddy and my schedule tends to match up much better during winter.  That's probably because we have less activities going on then.  For Grand Rapids, we didn't end up running one 20 miler together and we did three of them.  We got some long runs in together but it seemed that either I was out of town or he was out of town and before you knew it, the marathon was here.

We kind of virtually trained together by letting each other know how our long runs went and what distance we did but it just was not the same as running together.  Heck - I could virtually train with all of you if I wanted to do that.

I told my wife about training for a possible spring marathon and she kindly reminded me that about a month ago, I told her I didn't want to train for two marathons next season and if I start talking about doing that to remind me.  Haha!  Yes, I needed that.

So - one marathon or two in 2013?  That is the question!  I had planned to cross train and train for a faster half distance but maybe I can do both......maybe.

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!

  1. An April marathon wouldn't be too bad. That's 6 months away. The only downfall would be that you wouldn't do other races because of your training. Unless of course you work them in to your training.

Many people in my club do 2 a year. Some even 3 believe or not!! I think you could do it with no problems.

  3. Ha it's funny how quickly we forget things like that! I think if I ever did another marathon (which I TRULY don't think I want to), I would definitely want to do a spring marathon because winter running is so much better than summer running.

  4. It's tough to do both (train for a marathon; train for a fast half). I think you would definitely see some gains, but I think you'll gain more speed focusing on the half. Either choice is a win as far as I am concerned.
