Sockwa G3 Review

6 miles on the schedule today.  Just a short-long run today.  Trying to get back into the rhythm.

-----------------

Several weeks back, Sockwa sent me a pair of their new shoes, well socks...um shoes.  I call them shoes but many people would likely call them socks and I'll explain later why.  Here's what I was sent:

Packaging for Sockwa shoes
Sockwa G3
As you can see, from the looks of these, they look like shoes but they also look like socks.  Their Sockwa!

The shoes are made to feel like you are barefoot and while I've tried other barefoot type shoes, these are the first, in my opinion, where you really feel like your barefoot except your feet are protected.

Here's some of the features of the shoes:

  • They weigh in at about 2.4-3.5 oz. each
  • They have the thinnest sole available
  • They come in five colors including olive, brown, yellow, black and red
  • They are crushable, washable and durable
Here are some of the feature of the shoes as indicated on their website:

Now as I've been testing them out, I can attest to all the features listed above.  These things are super light which helps make them feel like you are barefoot.  In fact, they are the lightest shoes I have.

In regards to the sole being thin, check them out:
Very comfortable bottom; feels barefoot but still has nice traction control
It's amazing how thin these are!
As you can see below, they kind of look like socks as well and go on feeling that way.  The shoes stay in place as you use them.  Honestly, they are not enough cushion for me to run any distance in them but I did feel they are very comfortable to wear around the house and/or use outdoor doing any activity.  I would say that if you are used to running barefoot and/or in exceptionally minimal shoes and you are looking for another zero drop option, you will love these.
shoes or socks?
Here a look at how flexible they are:
Ultra flexible
Your feet go where they are made to go and this shoes allows for that.  The above picture also gives you a better idea how thin the sole is(1.2mm).  The shoes seems very durable but I've not had them long enough to assess the long term durability but I believe they will last based on the quality of them.

Sizing is a bit different than standard shoes in that you measure the length of your feet from the back of your heel to your longest toe.  You then look at your size on their chart and choose the correct fit.  It's what I did and the shoe fit perfect upon arrival.

These can be worn with socks but are perfectly fine without socks as well.  My personal preference is to wear socks with all my shoes.  I love the fact that I can be outside and feel barefoot without actually being so.

  1. I think I would call them slippers, but I haven't been into the barefoot running scene since I was a kid.

  2. Great review and I agree as I have been using them for 2+ years. As far as your durability question, I don't put too many miles on mine (10-15 per week jogging/walking) but they are still in great shape.
    Enjoy!
