Are we runners Dopey?

Rest day on the schedule. Got my first half marathon this Sunday - Rock CF.  I'm going to help pace my running buddy, Kevin, to a PR - 1:54:59.  I'll deem it a personal failure if he doesn't make it so Kevin, if you are reading this, no pressure.  If you want to send him some encouragement, you can tweet him at @kmjones234 and let him know I'm putting the pressure on.  Haha!

Ok you may not know it but I'm not a very big Disney fan.  Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it but its not my favorite place in the world.  I've been there three times(twice for a work function I won and once with my family).  I never planned to go back.

So as you probably heard, Disney announced a new Dopey challenge where you run four races over four days.  A 5k, then a 10k, then the half marathon followed by the full marathon.

Not only is this an extreme challenge aka lots of miles - 48.6 to be exact, it's also quite expensive.  Like $495 expensive just for the races or you could opt to run with the Runner's World Challenge for $999. Of course, what would you expect - its Disney.  They don't do things small.

The best part?  Six.....yes SIX medals! One for each race and then one each for the Goofy and Dopey Challenge.  Their medals are awesome and I don't think anyone would dispute that.  It's the only reason I would even consider this doing this event.  Now I just need to go remortgage the house and I'll be all set.

So tell me what you think.  Is it a challenge you would do or is this just getting too ridiculous?

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!

  1. Dopey is the new Goofy. It will be hugely popular.

  2. Ahhhh, I always feel like such a cheap a$$ when it comes to race entry fees!!! Call ME crazy, but I just don't want to spend big bucks to RUN, when I can run for FREE! I absolutely would do more races with friends for the experience, but the truth is I don't participate in A LOT of local events because it'd be just me and since I'm not financially free yet (and every penny counts!) it's just not worth it for me! *tear*

  3. $495 are you kidding me? Plus travel to and lodging? I'll pass...

    1. Yup! It's not cheap. I figure to do this, it would cost me $2,000. That's a lot of running locally. Oh but I want those medals!

  4. woah. That's a lot of money, a lot of miles, but those medals are insane! Someone wore their Mickey one to the january race I did and it was just HUGE and SPINNED and was just AWESOME. That would mean also being in the area for 4 days. ugh. eh. ugh. lol. That's a lot of Disney but I have little kids so I see disney.all.the.time!

  6. The Goofy has been my dream / goal for the past year, so I'll do "just" the 39.3. Besides, I can't afford 4 nights at Disney. Already booked my flight for the GOOFY so that would cost $$$ to change as well. I'll do it in the future after I strike it rich.

  7. Hmmm...maybe one day but first, run Disney, any distance. Ok, maybe start running first (dealing with a stress fracture at the moment - need lots of prayers and recovery wishes...pretty please.).

  8. Would love to do it - but it would cost a bundle to go and, of course, the family would come, so at least double all costs. Unless I win a large sum of money, I have no plans to do a Disney race. They do things well there, but you pay for it.
