Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area

Today, Kevin, Trieu(running buddies) and I went to the Stay in the Shade 10 mile training run on the trails at Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area out in Waterford.  There was probably 10 of us running today.  Karl, the race director does periodic training runs here and offers water at the mid point and also some snacks at the end.  Today, he even gave us a shirt from the Mountain Man race since he had leftovers.  Very nice!

Since I have not been there, I really wanted to run the trails out here.  They are single track trails with some hills there so you get a good workout for your long run especially if you have not been used to running hills(me).  Haha.

Josh from Clippin' Along decided to join us for his warm up(1 mile) and then he had to go but it was nice to see him before we started running.  Too bad he could not join us for the entire run.

Here's the splits, elevation and map of what we ran:
I guess the hills slowed me down.

Here's some of the pictures from today's run.

As we were running, you could see the lake to the left of you on parts of the trail.
At the top of one of the hills, we were treated with this view.
About the half way point, there was water for us which gave us a short break
I had my buddy, Trieu, take a quick picture of me out in the woods
A view of the hills and in the woods.

A good example of the single track when we were not in the wood.
It was nice to meet some new runners and I really enjoyed being out there.  The trails really work your legs hard but at the same time are also easier on them.  It's nice to get off the cement and asphalt and todays' weather was in the mid-50's to start to it was perfect.

If you don't get on trails especially when it's nice, now is the time to get out there.  You will love it!

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!

  1. This is a great trail. Back when I was young and in shape, I would mt. bike it, sometimes doing the loop twice. Looks like fun
