The Inaugural Kona Chocolate Run coming in one month!!!!
Next month, specifically on November 17th, in Plymouth, Michigan, Kona Running Company is presenting their inaugural Kona Chocolate Run 10k/5k/1 mile run.
I have to say that I'm not a huge fan of running most Inaugural races as there's usually some hiccups that happen in the first year but I will tell you that I've run BOTH of Kona's Inaugural Wicked Halloween Run AND ShamRocknRoll Run now to be known as Kona St. Patrick's Day Run and I can tell you that both events went off with incredible organization and success. Because of their vast experience organizing races, you can be confident that things will be incredible for this race as well. You can read both reviews of their races HERE and HERE. Because of the incredible race organization that Kona Running Company presents, there are no exceptions for the Chocolate Run and I can guaranty that this will be an awesome time for everyone involved!(and who doesn't want some chocolate after a run?) Of course, I'll have my full race review after the race as well.
So, with that, here's some of the details for the race:
This is going to be Michigan's LARGEST Chocolate Party. They are expecting over 4,500 participants for the first year! That is incredible!!!!!
They will have chocolate, chocolate AND more chocolate. At the post race chocolate party, they will have cups of Hot Chocolate, Scones, Chocolate Chip Cookies provided by Panera Bread and a premium Chocolate Fountain Fondues with fruits and pretzels provided by Schakolad Chocolate Factory under a Chocolate Buffet Tent. I've talked directly with Alan Whitehead, the race director about this, and he said it's going to be an incredible spread! They will also have a heated warming tent which is great considering you might need to bundle up by this time.
Of course, for signing up, all participants get an awesome 1/4 long sleeve pullover(sizes guaranteed if registered by 11/10) - check it out:
And for all 10k finishers, you receive another awesome Kona medal:
Packet pickup will be located at Central Middle School Gym. A great idea since it will likely be cooler outside so you can get out of the cold. You can also have someone else pick up your packet if you cannot make it.
There will be a Costume Contest - come run in your favorite costume dressed in a holdiday costume, superhero or chocolate theme. Either way, there will be judges there to determine the "Top Three" winners in three divisions.
Of course, as with all of Kona's races, the courses are certified and chip timed. If you have have run ShamRocknRoll or Wicked Halloween, you will know the course. Here's a look at the courses:
It's a great course for both fast runners and slower runners/walkers. It's a great family event. The races all start in downtown Plymouth at Kellogg Park. This is the same start area as their other Plymouth races and it's an excellent venue for a race. There will be age group awards as there are for their other races.
The 10k and 5k races will both have two start Waves with the 10k starting at 8am and 8:10am, the Hot Cocoa Mile starting at 8:15am and the 5k starting at 9am and 9:10am. The concert will start at 9am in a heated tent as well.
So who wants to run it with me? It's time to get signed up soon. This races has had some incredible interest and you want to make sure that you get in while you can.
