Bayshore Marathon Training Final Post


Yes, you read that right.  My first DNS.  Well, I'm not sure you can call it a DNS because the race is not until May but I've withdrawn from this marathon and sold my bib to another runner.  Good thing it's a really popular race.

You might recall a few weeks ago when I fell on my run.  Ever since that I've not been feeling right so I decided to not take a chance on running longer that 14 miles for now.  The Bayshore Marathon was not meant to be for me this year.  Am I disappointed?  Yes.  Is it the right thing to do for me?  Yes.

On a positive note, I'm still planning on running the North Country Trail Marathon(as a training run) and also the Oil Creek 50k(to just finish) in October.  Official training for both of these will start at the end of this month.  I've also got a bazillion other races still on the schedule including a ton of half marathons.

I'll be taking it a bit easier the next couple weeks and will still get out there and run some good miles but the pressure is off for the really long runs at least for another 4-6 weeks.  And, you know what?  I'm ok with that.

  1. This post title did boggle me when I read it. I wish I had done a DNS as well, but ran hampered. That's why I can' t have nice things. You have enough races under your belt, including this one, to survive just fine.

  2. Best decision. My DNS are due to over sleeping or just choosing not to show up. Granted they were for much smaller endeavors than a marathon. You will be better off in the long run! Can't wait to follow along with your 50K training.

  4. Good decision! I should have pulled out of my half last fall after taking a spill but I didn't and it wasn't a pretty race! Better to let it heal and go into your training strong.

  6. Nice to see a smart runner... I always tell my friend at the beginning of a race that "this isn't our last run"... good decisions make for lifetime runners. :-)

  7. DNE... Have had many DNE (did not enter) but as the number of people running races increases and you have to enter months in advance the DNS becomes an option if things aren't going well...

    I like to get in shape and then choose a race just a couple of weeks away to focus on, but those days are getting less and less.

    I have a friend who says: why waste all that good training on a marathon, why not skip the marathon and run some good times in other races.

    If you are cutting back the miles maybe you can pick up the speed and race a 5 or 10?

    1. Cutting back a bit but starting to 50k training in two weeks so no speed - run slower actually.
