I've talked about this in the past but occasionally I volunteer for races throughout the year. Yesterday, I volunteered for Tri To Finish's Stony Creek off road triathlon and had a great time with it. I basically went where they needed me so that ended up being an aid station on the run. Here was our set up. They had HEED sports drink, which is Hammer Nutrition's version of Gatorade as well as water and Hammer gels(Peanut Butter is my favorite). It was me and three other volunteers who manned the aid stations - there were two aid stations almost across from each other since it was an out and back course.
The run portion of the triathlon was on the Stony path. It was a perfect day for a race. So perfect, I wish I had signed up for it. Haha! I've actually done this triathlon and since it was so close to my home, I figured it would be great to volunteer for it. I also had a 4 mile run planned as well which I did after the race on the trails.
Volunteers got a Tri to Finish volunteer shirt too as well as the race offers discounts on future races. I don't know how much discount because I don't have any plans for one this year but maybe next year.
It's really nice to give back to a race and help them out. Without the volunteers, us athletes would not have as good of race experience. So think about volunteering for a race to help give back.
Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!
I love to volunteer and try and do so a few times a year. Fun to see the athletes I know and also to give back!
